The earliest records of Aliminusa, found in a map of the Historical Archives of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, date back to the 16th century and refer to the area as Terræ Harminusæ. Until then, there were only a few farms and animal watering troughs as well as some mills along the valleys of the Imera and Torto rivers, connected by a network of dirt roads. Aliminusa was founded in 1635, and it is one of the 209 centres which, in the same period, were granted a licentia populandi cum privilegium ædificandi (a licence to populate and build) resulting in the colonization and repopulation of the whole of Sicily.
